History

The club was instigated in the mid 80's by a group of business men intent on relaxation on a Sunday morning prior to a well earned drink in the local hostelry.
That particular watering hole was the Plough Inn at Kibblesworth (a mining village on the outskirts of Gateshead) hence the original name of The Plough Gun Club.
As the membership grew the club moved to a farm at Beamish near the Open Air Museum and the name was changed to Beamish Sporting Club.
Several happy years were spent there until another move found the club on the outskirts of Tanfield village near Stanley in County Durham.
Due to the sale of the farm another move was forced upon the club and because the membership had steadily grown over the years it was decided that if two separate grounds could be found we could shoot every week. At that time we did aquire two shooting areas, but recently one of the areas has been sold.
This brings us to the present day when a membership of 70 souls can now shoot alternate Sunday's at Winnows Hill near Slaley in Northumberland.
